Scott Roon - Baritone

Scott has lived his entire life in the West Michigan area. He was not always focused on singing, however he grew up involved in instrumental music (trumpet). When approached by his junior high choir director about singing, he laughed it off (a decision he now regrets). He started finding his voice after his high school years by joining the church choir. After many years of singing in the choir and praise teams, he decided to move it up a notch and joined a vocal mixed group, "A Touch of Joy," for 13 years. Scott also sang locally with the Hark Up Christmas shows for several years. Southern Gospel music has always interested him and he loves listening to and singing those harmonies. Scott and his wife MaryAnn live in Hudsonville, MI and have been married for 36 years and have three sons (all married).

Aaron Simmons - Bass

Aaron was born into a singing family and very early on in life he fell in love with the bass line. Whether it was listening to “Grandpa” Hart at the monthly church singspiration, or any of the “who’s who” of basses in the quartet world, Aaron knew he wanted to be a “cellar dweller.”

Throughout Junior High and High School, in Traverse City, Aaron sang in mixed choirs and in the select men’s ensembles there. Those experiences led him to Alma College where, in his Senior Year, he and four freshmen started the group now known as “Scots on the Rocks.” Through it all his heart was always in Southern Gospel Music and he prayed for the chance to be a quartet man. The Lord finally gave Aaron the opportunity to serve in a quartet when Tom’s brother Scott reached out to him about Faithful Journey.

Aaron and his wife Jana live in Allendale with their three daughters (The A-Team). They are both active in Life Stream Church’s Worship Arts Team and are members of the West Michigan Community Chorale directed by former Jenison Schools Director of Choirs Les Rowsey.

Aaron teaches Social Studies and coaches baseball at Muskegon Public Schools and Jana is a Biochemistry Professor at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

Tom Curtis - Lead Singer

Born in a musical family, Tom started singing in church at a very early age. He graduated from Cornerstone University with a degree in Music Performance and Directing.

In 1986, Tom and his wife Becky were married and have had 30+ wonderful years together. They have three children and  two grandchildren with whom they love spending time.

Tom was also involved in a music group from Sparta Baptist known as Free Life Singers for four years and was Music Director at Wealthy Park Baptist Church for fifteen years where he directed several musical programs. At County Line Community Church, Tom worked as Music Director and Associate Pastor for fifteen years. After leaving that position, Tom and his family joined Chapel Pointe in Jenison, Michigan where we were involved in the children’s music program for five years. In January of 2019 Tom joined Faithful Journey Quartet.

Paul Karsten - Tenor

Paul began his singing career at the age of 5 when he joined his church choir in Forest Grove Michigan. Although his parents are very supportive, he takes pride in being the one who is solely responsible for the “no humming at the table” rule in their house. At the age of 10, he was asked to sing a special music number at a local church (grandma’s church) where he sang one song, accidentally repeating the first verse, finished the song, and went to the bathroom to cry!

Thankfully it turned around and there was middle and high school choirs (10th-12th grade in honors choir). Followed up by four years of choir at Cornerstone University while getting his degree in elementary education.  From 9th grade-present he has always been involved with the worship team through his church or Cornerstone. Faithful Journey marks his first foray into the world of quartets and he is loving the opportunity to continue to expand his musical journey!

Paul and his wife Becky reside in Hudsonville where he teaches wood shop and she works at Grace Christian University as the community life coordinator.
